Optimum reading visibility and simplified use for the new F.P. Journe perpetual calendar with instantaneous jump.
During the 18th century, the manufacture of astronomical watches was gradually replaced by watches showing the date and, generally, moon phases.
The perpetual calendar displays the exact date, automatically taking into account the variable length of the months and the cycle of leap years. It also displays the day, the month and often the moon phases. To accomplish this watchmaking feat, the movement must have a mechanical "memory" of 1461 days, or four years. Despite their name, the perpetual calendars will have to be corrected for a day on march 1, 2100; the fault is not with mechanics, but with the gregorian calendar which decided that that year - like every three centuries out of four - would be a non-leap year.
With the 9th creation of the octa collection, the new F.P. Journe instantaneous jump calendar presents a distinct aesthetic from all the perpetual calendars before, with a refined dial offering perfect visibility through counters. The instant jump is armed with an ingenious F.P. Journe system designed to accumulate energy and release it instantly as the date, day or month passes by - and curb it at the end of its journey.
Unlike other perpetual calendars, which are often difficult to adjust, the F.P. Journe perpetual calendar is easy to use. All corrections are made by the 3-position crown, except for the quick correction of the months which is done by a protected correction lever and hidden under the horn at 1 o'clock. This facilitates adjustment over 4 years and allows use without specific tools.
The months of 28, 29, 30 and 31 days are automatically recognized with the leap year indicated in the center of the dial under the hour and minute hands. Years 1, 2 and 3 are indicated in black; the leap year l (leap year), is indicated in red.
The self-winding movement of the F.P. Journe perpetual calendar is manufactured in platinum, like all precision chronometers of the brand. It is built on the basis of the exclusive Octa caliber 1300.3. It also sports the exclusive off-center rotor in 22k rose gold, and comes with an optimized reassembly of the watch for a power reserve with retrograde indication of more than 120 effective hours.
With a total production limited to around 900 pieces per year, F.P. Journe is used to removing an existing template when creating a new model. The perpetual calendar thus replaces the Octa calendar with an annual calendar whose production has been stopped; it will become a collectors model.
